WHO WE ARE


Brad Wiens formed Vantage Point Advisors in 2012 and brings to bear a significant body of experience in financial management. As the Chief Financial Officer of Sun Gro Horticulture, he directed the expansion of a low performing business into an industry leader through cultural change and an agg ressive acquisition program. His background also includes specialty chemicals (Penwest Ltd.) and Ernst & Young. Brad’s experience includes a broad range of public reporting, strategic planning, acquisitions, Initial Public Offering, treasury, risk management, multinational accounting, human resources and information technology topics. He has actively participated in recent projects on sales of minority interests for high growth technology firms and acquisition integration.

Brad is currently on the board of WaterTectonics, Inc. and The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc. and is a past board member of Plum Energy LLC.

Troy Griffith brings over 20 years of financial and accounting experience to VPA. Troy spent over half of his career working for Sun Gro Horticulture, progressing through the accounting group where his last position as Controller included overseeing all accounting and finance functions for both the U.S. and international operations. During his career at Sun Gro, Troy gained valuable experience in multiple areas including acquisitions, valuations, transfer pricing, corporate taxes, foreign currency, and financial reporting. Prior to joining Sun Gro, Troy worked in the software industry as a Senior Accountant and in public accounting as an Auditor. He has a strong desire to help his clients improve their financial operations and enable a focus on financial information that drives informed business decisions. Troy has completed several projects for organizations in transition.

Troy received his B.S. in Business Administration with emphasis on Accounting and Finance from the University of California at Berkeley and was awarded Academic All American honors as a member of the CAL swim team.

CASE STUDY – WaterTectonics

Water Tectonics was going through a rapid growth cycle based on a new contract with a large customer in the oil-field services business. A need was identified for an Interim CFO. Brad picked up the threads of the work in progress to assist the owners in presenting the company to prospective investors and to manage ongoing finance processes. An equity investment was closed in 2013 which enabled WT to pursue international sales opportunities and expand technical capacity.

CASE STUDY – Plum Energy

This innovative company had evolved from start up to a leader in small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) consulting and project management. Significant revenue growth attracted the attention of a large fuel services firm. Brad was asked to establish an in-house accounting function and assist the Plum founder in the sale of a minority position, which was completed in 2014.

CASE STUDY – Nursery Assets

A long-established commercial nursery in southwestern Washington had fallen victim to the Great Recession and was under Court supervision.  Brad and a team of functional experts assisted the asset buyer (a Canadian company) to install the accounting, IT and HR processes in a newly formed corporation to successfully create a platform for their investment.

CASE STUDY – Major Life Insurance Company

A well-known local life insurance company has used Troy on a regular basis to assist with designing internal controls and in testing them annually. Troy’s attention to detail and also the ability to see the “big picture” have made him invaluable in this process.

CASE STUDY – Transportation Services

A locally owned company transitioning its upper management team engaged Troy to serve as interim CFO. He identified multiple areas for improvement and developed meaningful financial reports to assist management in running daily operations. Ultimately, he worked with ownership to identify and hire a new CFO.
